【IT168 报道】在日前结束的2007微软Windows硬件工程会议（WinHEC）上，微软正式对外宣布了代号为“Longhorn”的下一代服务器操作系统的名称——Windows Server 2008。与此同时，微软还公布了Windows Server 2008的包装。

    参加大会的微软Windows Server部门总经理Bill Laing还向外界透露，Windows Server 2008将是微软发布的“最后一款32位操作系统”，包括服务器端和客户端。在2008年之后，微软就会开始全面转向64位。届时，像Exchange Server 2007、Windows Compute Cluster Server、Windows Server Virtualization等微软服务器产品就只有64位版本。

    Laing还指出，在用户体验Windows Server Beta 3的过程中，64位版的采纳比例更高一些。

    根据微软Windows Server产品路线图，用于小型家庭管理的Windows Home Server将在Windows Server 2008之后正式推出，之后相继发布代号中型商业版“Centro”和小型商业版“Cougar”的Windows Server产品，然后再推出代号同样是“Longhorn”的Windows Storage Server后，Windows Server 2008将在2009年迎来R2升级包，但只有64位版本。

    至于Windows Serer 2008具体的上市日期，微软在本次WinHEC大会上没有宣布。
